Hedelmättömyydeksi is a Finnish term that translates to infertility. It refers to the inability of a person or couple to conceive a child after a period of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse. This condition can affect both men and women, and its causes are diverse.

In women, infertility can stem from ovulation disorders, damage to the fallopian tubes, endometriosis, uterine abnormalities, or age-related factors. Ovulation disorders involve irregular or absent ovulation, often due to hormonal imbalances. Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes can prevent the egg from reaching the uterus or sperm from reaching the egg.
