Hastala is a former village development committee located within the Ramechhap District of the Janakpur Zone in northeastern Nepal. The area is characterized by its hilly terrain and predominantly agrarian lifestyle, with residents engaging in farming, animal husbandry, and small-scale trade.

According to the 1991 Nepal census, Hastala had a population of 3,152 individuals residing in 613 households. The demographic composition reflected a mix of ethnic groups typical of the central hills, including Brahmin, Chhetri, and various indigenous communities. Language use was primarily Nepali, with local dialects prevalent.

Geographically, Hastala sits at an altitude that affords a temperate climate, supporting the cultivation of crops such as rice, maize, and millet. The local economy relies heavily on agriculture, supplemented by seasonal migration of labor to nearby cities and towns.

Historically, Hastala has maintained a level of administrative importance as a local council, facilitating the delivery of rural development projects and community services.
