A harpungevær, often translated as harpoon gun, is a specialized firearm designed to launch a harpoon. Harpoons are typically barbed projectiles attached to a line, historically used for hunting large marine animals such as whales and seals. The harpoon gun provides a more efficient and safer method of delivery compared to traditional hand-thrown harpoons, especially from the deck of a moving vessel.

These weapons have evolved over time. Early versions were often single-shot muzzle-loading devices. Modern harpoon guns are typically breech-loading and can be either manually operated or pneumatic.
