Hangrobbanásként, also known as a sonic boom, is the sound associated with a shock wave created when an object travels through the air at a speed faster than the speed of sound. This phenomenon occurs when the object exceeds the sound barrier. As the object moves faster than sound, it cannot get out of the way of its own pressure waves, and these waves are compressed and merged into a single shock wave. This shock wave propagates outwards in a cone shape.

When this cone of shock waves intersects with the ground, observers hear a loud, explosive sound, often described as a "boom." The intensity and characteristics of the sonic boom depend on factors such as the size and shape of the object, its altitude, and atmospheric conditions. For aircraft, sonic booms are typically heard when they are accelerating through the sound barrier or flying at supersonic speeds. The "double boom" sometimes heard is due to two shock waves, one from the nose and one from the tail of the aircraft, reaching the observer. While associated with supersonic flight, similar phenomena can occur with other high-speed objects, such as projectiles or even cracking a whip.
