Hallintaväylät, known in English as management buses or control buses, are a fundamental concept in computer architecture and embedded systems. They are a type of bus used to transfer control signals and status information between different components of a system. Unlike data buses that carry actual data, or address buses that specify memory locations, management buses facilitate the coordination and operation of various hardware modules.

These buses typically carry signals such as clock enable, reset, interrupt requests, and other control signals that dictate the behavior of connected devices. For example, a CPU might use a management bus to signal to a peripheral that it should start an operation, or a peripheral might use it to indicate that it has completed a task and is ready for the next instruction.

The design and implementation of management buses vary depending on the complexity and requirements of the system. In simpler systems, they might be direct connections between a few components. In more complex architectures, they can be part of a larger bus system, or utilize dedicated protocols like I2C or SPI for inter-device communication, even when the primary purpose is management.
