Halletu is a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, deeply rooted in the country’s social and cultural practices. The ritual involves brewing and serving coffee, often accompanied by incense and sweet treats, and is a significant part of Ethiopian hospitality. The word "halletu" comes from the Ge'ez language, meaning "to drink coffee," reflecting its central role in the ceremony.

The ceremony typically begins with roasting green coffee beans over an open flame, which are then ground into a fine powder. The ground coffee is brewed in a special pot called a *jebena*, a clay vessel with a long spout and handle. The brewing process involves adding hot water to the coffee grounds and allowing the mixture to settle, creating a thick, rich liquid. The coffee is served in small cups, often three times, with each serving becoming progressively stronger.

Incense, known as *qolo*, is burned during the ceremony, adding an aromatic element and symbolizing purification. Guests are also offered traditional sweets such as *injera* (a sourdough flatbread) and *mitmita* (a spicy spice blend), which complement the coffee.

Halletu is not merely a beverage ritual but a social event that fosters community, conversation, and connection.
