Hakkuriteholähteisiin, commonly known as switching-mode power supplies (SMPS), are electronic power supplies that incorporate a switching regulator to convert electrical power efficiently. Unlike linear power supplies, which dissipate excess energy as heat, hakkuriteholähteisiin rapidly switch a power transformer on and off. This rapid switching, often at frequencies from tens of kilohertz to megahertz, allows for smaller transformers and filters, leading to lighter and more compact designs.

After transformation, the AC is rectified again, filtered, and then regulated to produce the desired output voltage. However, they can also generate electromagnetic interference (EMI) due to their high-frequency switching, which often requires careful design and shielding. Despite this, their advantages in efficiency and size have made them the dominant power supply technology in many modern electronic devices.
