hPakm

hPakm is a lesser-known but historically significant Korean traditional musical instrument. It is a type of *puk* (a Korean percussion instrument), specifically a type of barrel drum, and is often associated with the *pansori* tradition, a form of Korean narrative singing accompanied by drumming. The name "hPakm" is derived from the Korean word for "big drum," reflecting its larger size compared to other similar instruments.

The hPakm is typically cylindrical in shape, made from a hollowed-out wooden barrel or log, and covered with animal skin, usually from a cow or horse. The drum is played with a pair of sticks, one held in each hand, and produces a deep, resonant sound that complements the vocal melodies of pansori.
