gyorsít

Gyorsít is a Hungarian verb meaning to accelerate or to speed up. It is formed from the adjective gyors (fast) with the causative suffix -ít, creating a transitive verb that takes a direct object, as in: A motor gyorsítja a járművet (The engine accelerates the vehicle). The reflexive or periphrastic form felgyorsít is common when referring to processes or systems that become faster, for example A folyamat felgyorsítja a gyártási időt (The process speeds up production time). In physics, gyorsítás refers specifically to acceleration, the rate of change of velocity. It is defined as a = Δv/Δt and is measured in meters per second squared. In Hungarian technical usage, a device that increases particle speed is called gyorsító or részecske-gyorsító (particle accelerator).
