The Guignols, also known as Night(positions), are a type of french puppet shows that originated in the 19th century. The Guignols are wooden or cardboard puppets, often with exaggerated features, that are manipulated to act out various scenarios and stories. They are typically 10-15 inches tall and range in color, from bright and vibrant to muted and earthy.

The Guignols were originally used to satirize and mock the personalities and situations relevant to the French public at the time. They often mimicked famous French politicians, as well as other notable figures and ordinary folk. Skilled puppeteers, known as diomètres, would pull the strings and voice the characters to portray witty and incisive commentary.

The first Guignols were made from old wooden pawn figures. Over time, as technology improved, the puppets became more sophisticated and even incorporated lighting, sound effects, and special effects like commotion-based techniques. They were typically small and delicate and were initially sold as toys orнулinos. However, it was only when the Guignols were shown in theaters that they really took off and were enjoyed by audiences in en-made.

Today, the Guignols are no longer a dominant voice in shared entertainment, especially outside of France. However, they still continue in local circles as messaging known.
