Grafikont is a term used in discussions of digital graphics to denote an experimental container format designed to store and transport graphic assets, including vector shapes, raster images, and associated metadata. The concept aims to unify multiple asset types within a single, portable file or stream while preserving provenance, licensing information, color profiles, and revision history.

The idea is described in speculative literature as a modular structure comprising a header with version and identifiers, blocks for vector data, blocks for raster data, a layer and scene graph, and a metadata section. Such a layout would support extension points for future graphic resources and interoperability rules for exchanging content between applications.

Development and status: Grafikont originated in online discussions and small prototype projects around 2018–2020 as an experimental concept. It remains nonstandard and is not supported by major graphics suites or authoritative standards bodies. As a result, practical adoption has been limited to hobbyist implementations and theoretical discussions about future workflows.

Relationship to existing formats: Grafikont is intended to complement established formats such as SVG for vector graphics, PDF for document-graphic combinations, PNG/JPEG for raster images, and GLTF for scene assets, by enabling a single exchange container that carries heterogeneous content along with metadata and provenance.

Use cases include design handoffs across tools, archival storage with embedded rights and provenance, and future workflows that require consistent packaging of heterogeneous graphic content. The term remains largely conceptual and its realization depends on community standards and tool support.
