Glasvoechirurgie, also known as vitreoretinal surgery, is a specialized field of ophthalmology dedicated to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the vitreous humor and the retina. The vitreous is the clear, gel-like substance that fills the space between the lens and the retina in the back of the eye. The retina is a light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye responsible for converting light into neural signals that are sent to the brain for interpretation as vision.
