Glassionomencement is a hypothetical term referring to the process by which glass transitions from a solid state to a liquid state. This concept is often discussed in the context of the long-debated question of whether glass is a supercooled liquid or an amorphous solid. Proponents of the supercooled liquid theory suggest that over extremely long timescales, glass molecules slowly flow and rearrange themselves, akin to a liquid. This gradual movement is what would constitute glassionomencement.

However, the overwhelming scientific consensus is that glass is indeed an amorphous solid. While it lacks the long-range crystalline order of typical solids, its molecular structure is essentially frozen in place at room temperature. The viscosity of glass is extraordinarily high, meaning that any molecular movement is practically negligible on human timescales. Therefore, observable glassionomencement, as in a noticeable flow or change in viscosity, does not occur under normal environmental conditions. Experiments designed to detect such flow, like the famous "red wine glass experiment" demonstrating thickened bases, have been largely debunked as artifacts of the manufacturing process rather than evidence of continuous flow. The term glassionomencement, while evocative, describes a phenomenon not supported by current scientific understanding of glass properties.
