Glass art is visual art created primarily from glass, encompassing sculpture, vessels, installations, and ceremonial or functional objects where form, color, light, and texture are central. It spans hot-working techniques such as glassblowing and cold processes such as carving and fusing. While it intersects with industrial glass production, glass art emphasizes concept and craft by individual artists or studios.

Historically, glassmaking traces to ancient civilizations, with early vessels and beads, then medieval windows and church decoration through stained glass. The 19th century saw European movements in decorative glass. The modern studio glass movement began in the mid-20th century, elevating glass from manufacture to personal artworks. Notable contributors include Harvey Littleton and Dale Chihuly.

Techniques include hot-working such as glassblowing, lampworking (flameworking), and casting, as well as kilnforming methods like fusing and slumping. Cold-working techniques—grinding, polishing, etching—finish surfaces. Color is added with metal oxides and colorants; glass may be formed into sculpture, vessels, or installations that explore light, transparency, and texture.

Materials include silica glass variants such as soda-lime and borosilicate, sheet glass, frit, and cullet. Important centers of glass art production and study include Murano in Italy, Bohemia in the Czech Republic, and the American studios associated with Corning, Toledo, and Seattle; museums preserve vast collections and loan works for exhibition.

Today, glass art is produced worldwide in studios, galleries, and public installations, with contemporary artists pursuing large-scale works, immersive environments, and experimental forms. Education and research are supported by MFA programs, residencies, and artist-run spaces, while safety, conservation, and technical innovation remain central to practice.
