Glasfiberteknik, a Swedish term, translates to "fiberglass technology." It encompasses the materials, processes, and applications related to fiberglass. Fiberglass itself is a composite material made of glass fibers embedded in a resin matrix, typically a polymer like polyester, epoxy, or vinyl ester. These glass fibers provide strength and rigidity, while the resin binds them together and protects them.

The manufacturing of fiberglass products involves several key techniques. Pultrusion is a continuous process used to create constant cross-section profiles like rods, tubes, and beams. Hand lay-up is a simpler method where layers of fiberglass mat or cloth are saturated with resin and molded by hand. Spray-up is similar to hand lay-up but uses a spray gun to apply chopped fiberglass and resin simultaneously. Filament winding is used to produce hollow cylindrical shapes by winding resin-impregnated fibers around a mandrel.

Applications of fiberglass are widespread due to its favorable properties, which include high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, and design flexibility. It is commonly found in the automotive industry for car bodies and components, in the marine sector for boat hulls, in construction for insulation and structural elements, and in aerospace for aircraft parts.
