The term is the opposite of geçerli (valid), and its use spans legal, administrative, and everyday contexts.

In legal and administrative contexts, geçersizness can arise in documents, agreements, decisions, licenses, ballots, and other acts. When something is deemed geçersiz, it typically cannot create rights or obligations, and authorities or courts may revoke, cancel, or declare it void. The determination of invalidity can result from statutory grounds, procedural flaws, illegality, lack of essential elements, incapacity, or misrepresentation.
