These storms can disrupt radio communications, satellite operations, and power grids. The aurora borealis and aurora australis, or Northern and Southern Lights, are beautiful visual displays that occur when charged particles from the sun interact with gases in Earth's upper atmosphere, often intensified during geomagnetic storms.

The study of geomagnéticas, or geomagnetism, involves understanding the origin, structure, and variations of Earth's magnetic field. Scientists use magnetometers to measure the field's strength and direction at different locations and times. These measurements help us learn about Earth's interior, solar activity, and space weather. The geomagnetic field is not static; it changes over time, including gradual pole shifts and occasional reversals of polarity over geological timescales.
