Geocomposiet, also known as geocomposite or geotextile composite, refers to a composite material designed for civil engineering and construction applications that combines geotextiles with other components such as geogrids, geopacks, and geonet fabrics. The core idea is to merge the separation, filtration, and reinforcement properties of geotextiles, such as permeable woven or nonwoven fabrics, with the load-dispersing capabilities of geogrids or the flexible sealing attributes of geopacks. This combination is bonded or laminated into a single unit that can be used for road sub-base reinforcement, drainage layers, erosion control, and embankment stabilization, among other uses.

The manufacturing process typically involves lamination or adhesive bonding techniques that secure the geotextile layers onto the reinforcing grid. The resulting product offers improved mechanical performance, such as higher tensile strength, better deformation resistance, and a reduced probability of material failure under repetitive loads. In application, geocomposiets are laid over a substrate, then covered with a layer of soil or granular material, where they distribute vehicle or static loads across a broader area, thereby reducing bearing pressures and extending pavement life. They also improve drainage and can reduce settlement by allowing the soil to adjust without compromising structural integrity.

Geocomposiets are favored in contexts where a single, ready-to‑install solution is advantageous, offering significant time savings compared to installing separate layers. However, they can be more expensive than conventional materials, and their long‑term performance depends on accurate manufacturing and proper installation. Ongoing research focuses on optimizing fiber adhesives, enhancing UV resistance, and developing recyclable variants.
