Genderflexible is often discussed alongside nonbinary, genderqueer, and genderfluid. Unlike some definitions of genderfluid, which explicitly denote change over time, genderflexible emphasizes adaptability and range; however, many people who identify as genderflexible also identify with one of these terms. Pronoun use may be stable or may shift with identity or context; individuals typically choose pronouns that reflect their current identity and comfort.

The term appears in personal bios, online profiles, and some academic or advocacy discussions. It is not universally recognized by organizations, legal systems, or healthcare providers, and respect for a person’s stated identity and pronouns is essential. Because meanings can vary, it is best to ask an individual how they prefer to be identified and what pronouns they prefer.
