Galvanizálásként refers to the process of galvanization, a method of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron to prevent rusting. This process is commonly used to enhance the durability and lifespan of metal products.

The most prevalent method of galvanization is hot-dip galvanizing. In this technique, fabricated iron or steel articles are thoroughly cleaned to remove any impurities like grease, mill scale, and rust. They are then immersed in a bath of molten zinc, typically at around 450 degrees Celsius (842 degrees Fahrenheit). The molten zinc reacts with the iron or steel to form a metallurgical bond, creating a coating that is integral to the base metal.

Another method is electrogalvanizing, also known as zinc plating. This process uses an electrochemical bath to deposit a thin layer of zinc onto the metal surface. While it provides corrosion resistance, the coating is generally thinner and less durable than that achieved through hot-dip galvanizing.

Galvanized materials are widely used in construction for structural components, roofing, and fencing, as well as in the automotive industry for car bodies and chassis. The zinc coating acts as a barrier, preventing corrosive elements from reaching the underlying metal. Furthermore, zinc provides cathodic protection, meaning that even if the coating is scratched and the base metal is exposed, the zinc will preferentially corrode, sacrificing itself to protect the iron or steel. This dual protection mechanism makes galvanization a highly effective and cost-efficient method for corrosion prevention.
