This system is commonly found on children's bicycles, cruiser bikes, and some single-speed or fixed-gear bicycles.

The mechanism typically involves a cam and roller system. When the pedals are pushed backward, a cam rotates and pushes rollers outward against a braking surface, usually a drum or cone within the hub. This friction generates the braking force. Reversing the pedal motion again disengages the braking mechanism, allowing the bicycle to roll freely.
