Fundusfotózás, also known as fundus photography or retinal photography, is a medical imaging technique used to document the interior of the eye, specifically the retina, optic disc, macula, and blood vessels. This non-invasive procedure captures high-resolution images of the fundus, which is the back portion of the eye.

The process involves using a specialized camera, often attached to an ophthalmoscope, which uses bright light to illuminate the retina. A mydriatic agent, a type of eye drop, may be administered to dilate the pupil, allowing for a wider and clearer view of the fundus. The patient typically looks into the camera or at a fixation target, and multiple images are taken from different angles.

Fundus photography is crucial for diagnosing, monitoring, and managing a variety of eye conditions. It is instrumental in detecting diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), hypertensive retinopathy, and optic nerve disorders. The detailed images can reveal subtle changes that might be missed during a standard eye examination. Furthermore, it provides a baseline for future comparisons, enabling ophthalmologists to track the progression of a disease or the effectiveness of treatment over time.
