frytsprängning
Frytsprängning is a Swedish term that describes the process of frost wedging or frost shattering. It is a mechanical weathering process that occurs when water seeps into cracks and fissures in rocks. When the temperature drops below freezing, the water turns to ice. Ice occupies a greater volume than water, exerting pressure on the surrounding rock. This pressure can widen existing cracks or create new ones. With repeated cycles of freezing and thawing, the cracks can enlarge, eventually causing the rock to break apart into smaller pieces.
This phenomenon is particularly common in regions with a climate that experiences frequent freeze-thaw cycles. Mountains
