Forráspontú is a Hungarian adjective used in chemistry to describe something related to the boiling point or having a defined boiling point. It is formed from forráspont (boiling point) plus the suffix -ú, which signals a characteristic property of a substance.

The term is commonly used when referring to pure substances, mixtures, or solutions in data tables and textbook explanations, to indicate the temperature at which the substance boils under a given pressure. Under standard atmospheric pressure (1 atm, about 101.3 kPa), a forráspontú substance has a specific boiling point that serves as a reference for data comparison and process planning, such as distillation.

Boiling point is pressure dependent: changing the external pressure shifts the forráspont. Therefore, reports may specify the forráspont at a particular pressure, or describe how the boiling point changes with pressure. In this sense, forráspontú is a descriptive term rather than a standalone value.

In solutions, solutes cause changes to the boiling point, a phenomenon captured by related terms: forráspont-emelkedés (boiling-point elevation) and, in some contexts, forráspont-depresszió (boiling-point depression). These concepts are part of colligative properties and are important in tasks such as distillation design and solvent selection.

Examples of standard boiling points include water at 100 °C, ethanol at about 78.4 °C, and diethyl ether at about 34.6 °C, all at 1 atm. These values illustrate how a substance’s forráspont can be used to identify and predict behavior during heating, evaporation, and separation processes.
