Forinttal is the instrumental case form of the Hungarian noun forint, the currency of Hungary. It expresses “with forints” or “by means of forints” and is used to indicate the amount of money involved, often in relation to payment or price changes.

In Hungarian grammar, the instrumental case is formed with the suffix -val/-vel. When the stem ends in a consonant, this often surfaces as -tal, yielding forinttal. The form is commonly used after numerals to mark the amount of money, or with verbs that describe paying, spending, or changes measured in money. For example, Az ár öt forinttal emelkedett (The price rose by five forints). Fizettem harminc forinttal (I paid thirty forints with that amount).

Forinttal is distinct from forms like forintban, which would indicate “in forints” as a unit of account or currency denomination rather than the instrument or amount used. The choice between instrumental and other cases depends on syntactic meaning, particularly whether money is the means of payment or the amount involved.

The forint is the official currency of Hungary, abbreviated HUF, with subunits historically including fillér. While forinttal is a grammatical construction, it reflects everyday usage when discussing sums of money, payments, or monetary changes in Hungarian.
