Fnonite is a theoretical concept in speculative biology and astrobiology, referring to a hypothetical life form whose biochemistry is based on silicon rather than carbon. While carbon is the fundamental building block of all known life on Earth due to its versatility in forming complex organic molecules, silicon shares some chemical similarities with carbon, including its ability to form four covalent bonds.
