A folyadékhmérő, often translated as a liquid level indicator or gauge, is a device used to measure or indicate the level of a liquid within a container. These instruments are essential in various industrial, commercial, and domestic applications to monitor and control fluid levels, ensuring proper operation, preventing overfilling or emptying, and maintaining safety.

There are numerous types of folyadékhmérők, each employing different principles of measurement. Common types include float gauges, which use a buoyant object that rises and falls with the liquid level and is connected to an indicator; sight glasses, which provide a direct visual reference of the liquid level through a transparent tube or window; hydrostatic gauges, which measure the pressure exerted by the liquid column to infer the level; and capacitive or ultrasonic sensors, which use electrical or sound wave properties to detect the liquid surface.

The selection of a folyadékhmérő depends on factors such as the type of liquid being measured, the operating temperature and pressure, the required accuracy, and the cost. For instance, a simple sight glass might suffice for a domestic water tank, while a sophisticated radar or guided wave radar gauge would be necessary for precise measurement in a high-pressure chemical reactor. Their applications range from fuel tanks in vehicles and oil storage tanks in refineries to water levels in boilers and beverage containers in food processing.
