A flytmetre is a type of instrument used to measure the flow rate of liquids or gases. The name "flytmetre" is derived from the Danish word "flyde," meaning flow, and "meter," indicating a measuring device. These instruments are designed to quantify the volume or mass of a substance passing through a specific point in a given period.

There are various principles upon which flytmetres operate. Some common types include mechanical flow meters, such as turbine or paddle wheel meters, which use rotating elements whose speed is proportional to the flow rate. Electromagnetic flow meters, on the other hand, utilize Faraday's law of induction, where the fluid's movement through a magnetic field generates a voltage that is measured.
