Floorless is an adjective describing something that lacks a floor. In general usage, it can refer to objects, spaces, or designs that do not include a conventional floor surface, exposing the space beneath or above where a floor would normally be. While the term can appear in architectural or design discussions, it is not a formal, standardized category in most professional contexts. In popular culture, however, it is most commonly associated with a specific type of amusement-ride design.

Floorless Coasters are a recognizable class of roller coasters built by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M). These rides feature trains that travel without a floor beneath the riders, causing the passengers’ legs to dangle freely as the train moves along the track. The absence of a floor enhances the sensation of exposure and height, particularly during inversions and high-speed turns. The concept was popularized in the early 2000s, with Medusa at Six Flags Great Adventure widely cited as the first floorless coaster, opening in 2000. Another early example is Kraken at SeaWorld Orlando, which also opened in 2000. Since then, numerous parks around the world have added floorless coasters, expanding the variety of layouts and experiences within this design family.

Outside of coasters, floorless can be used descriptively to indicate spaces or structures that do not include a floor surface, but this usage is far less common than its association with the roller coaster model. Overall, floorless is most closely tied to a specific category of thrill rides that emphasizes exposure and dangling riders as a core element of the experience.
