Fleksografii (flexography) is a rotary relief printing process widely used for high-volume packaging and labeling. It employs flexible relief plates—traditionally rubber, now often photopolymer—mounted on rotating cylinders to transfer ink to a variety of substrates including paper, cardboard, plastic films and metalized materials.

The basic press configuration includes an anilox roller that meters ink, a doctor blade to control ink film, the flexible printing plate, and an impression cylinder. Modern systems incorporate computer-to-plate technology, precise anilox engraving, and automated web handling to improve registration and reduce makeready time. Inks have evolved from solvent-based to water-based and UV-curable formulations, enhancing drying speed and environmental performance.

Fleksografii is favored for its adaptability to different substrate textures, high press speeds, and cost-effectiveness for long runs of packaging, corrugated boards, flexible packaging, labels and newspapers. Image quality and color fidelity have improved substantially, though flexography traditionally offers lower tonal range and finer detail than offset or gravure for certain applications.

Environmental and workflow trends include adoption of low-VOC inks, UV/EB curing, improved waste reduction, and integration with digital prepress and inline finishing. Ongoing developments focus on plate materials, ink formulation and digital hybrid presses to expand flexography’s capabilities while addressing regulatory and sustainability pressures in the printing and packaging industries.
