Fissurventiler, often translated as fissure valves or crack vents, are a type of safety device primarily used in older or specialized hydraulic systems. Their function is to prevent over-pressurization within a sealed system by releasing excess fluid if a certain pressure threshold is exceeded. This is achieved through a small, intentionally manufactured or existing crack or fissure within a component. When the internal pressure pushes against this fissure with enough force, it widens momentarily, allowing a small amount of fluid to escape. Once the pressure drops, the fissure closes, resealing the system.

These devices are typically found in applications where a sudden pressure surge might occur but where a more complex and expensive pressure relief valve is deemed unnecessary or impractical. They are often integrated into castings or housings themselves, rather than being a separate, add-on component. The size and depth of the fissure are critical in determining the pressure at which the vent will operate. Manufacturing these fissures requires precise control to ensure consistent performance.

While effective for their intended purpose, fissurventiler have limitations. The amount of fluid released is usually small and not precisely controlled. Over time, the fissure can wear or become obstructed, potentially compromising its function. Modern hydraulic systems often employ more sophisticated pressure relief valves for greater accuracy, reliability, and adjustability.
