Firekammeret is a term used in Norwegian and Danish sources to denote “the fire chamber.” The name combines words for fire and chamber, and historically referred to both a physical room and an administrative entity connected with fire protection and safety.

As a physical space, firekammeret could be part of a castle, palace, church, or town hall where flame-related activities occurred. It might have served as storage for torches, candles, and other lighting equipment, or as a workshop where lamps were maintained, brazier coal was prepared, or fires were tended. In architectural studies, references to firekammeret help illuminate how historic buildings organized access to flame and heat.

As an administrative unit, firekammeret sometimes designated a department within municipal or royal offices responsible for firefighting equipment, training, and disaster preparedness.
