Firebugs are an English indie pop band that emerged from Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 2000s. The group was formed in 2004 by lead vocalist and guitarist Pete Simpson, bassist Darren Marsh, drummer Josh Collins, and guitarist Andrew Hughes. Their sound blends melodic hooks with guitar-driven arrangements, drawing comparisons to the Britpop era while retaining a contemporary pop sensibility.

The band first gained attention with the independently released demo 'Hold On' in 2005, which earned them a local following and an invitation to perform at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in 2006. Following the festival circuit, Firebugs secured a deal with the independent label RA Records, which released their debut single "So Beautiful" in early 2007. The track peaked at number 70 on the UK Singles Chart and was accompanied by a music video that received rotation on MTV UK.

Their self-titled debut album, released in 2008, showcased a maturation of their songwriting. Tracks such as "Get No Sleep" and "You Saved My Life" were promoted through national tours with acts like The Feeling and The Holloways. While the album failed to break into the top tier of the UK Albums Chart, it earned a respectable position in the indie press and cemented the band’s reputation as solid live performers.

After a hiatus in 2010, Firebugs returned with a compilation of unreleased material in 2014 and have since remained a sporadic touring presence, largely performing in regional venues. Their contribution to the mid‑2000s UK indie pop landscape is noted for its earnest lyricism and polished pop-rock craft.
