El Filibusterismo, or The Filibuster, is a novel by Philippine writer José Rizal, published in Spanish as El Filibusterismo. It is Rizal’s second major novel and serves as a sequel to Noli Me Tangere. Published in 1891 in Ghent, Belgium, the work adopts a darker, more sardonic tone and centers on social injustice and colonial tyranny in the later Spanish era of the Philippines.

The novel criticizes the Spanish colonial system, including its civil administration and the abuses of the church. It depicts a society ruled by corruption, privilege, and hypocrisy, and it explores the costs of oppression on ordinary Filipinos. The principal figure, Simoun, is the disguised alter ego of Crisostomo Ibarra returning from exile, who seeks to provoke reform or revolution by dramatic means.
