Filbane is a fictional high-performance polymer designed for advanced composite applications. Created by the Arcadia Materials Consortium in the mid-22nd century, it is noted for a combination of high strength, stiffness, and thermal stability that exceeds conventional thermosets.

Filbane forms a cross-linked thermoset matrix with semi-crystalline domains. Typical properties include tensile strength around 450–600 MPa, Young's modulus 25–60 GPa, density near 1.2 g/cm3, and service temperatures up to 350–500°C in inert atmospheres. It exhibits low creep and strong resistance to moisture, solvents, and UV exposure relative to standard epoxies.

Synthesis involves condensation polymerization of multifunctional monomers with controlled cross-linking, followed by heat curing. In composites, filbane is supplied as a resin infused into carbon or glass fiber preforms and cured in an autoclave or out-of-autoclave process to form a dense network. Additives such as nano-fillers can tailor toughness and thermal conductivity.

Applications include aerospace structures, turbine blades, high-performance sporting equipment, and protective armor. Its low density and high-temperature resistance make it attractive for components under heavy mechanical loads in harsh environments.

As a fictional material, filbane is used in theoretical discussions and design case studies. It has no real-world production but serves as an example of resin chemistry and composite design.
