A fallácia, also known as a fallacy, is a mistaken belief, especially one based on unsound arguments. In logic and rhetoric, a fallácia refers to a flaw in reasoning that renders an argument invalid or unsound. These flaws can be unintentional errors in thought or deliberate attempts to deceive or manipulate. Fallacies are commonly found in everyday conversations, political debates, advertising, and even academic discourse.

Other common informal fallácias include fallacies of weak induction, such as hasty generalization, where a conclusion is drawn from insufficient evidence, and fallacies of presumption, which involve unwarranted assumptions, like begging the question. Understanding fallácias is crucial for critical thinking, as it allows individuals to identify weak or misleading arguments and construct more sound reasoning themselves. Recognizing fallácias helps in evaluating information more effectively and avoiding manipulation.
