Faktorterhelések, often translated as factoring, is a financial transaction where a business sells its accounts receivable to a third party, known as a factor, at a discount. This provides the business with immediate cash flow instead of waiting for customers to pay their invoices. The factor then assumes the responsibility of collecting the outstanding debts from the business's customers.

The process typically begins with a business entering into an agreement with a factoring company. When the business issues an invoice to its customer, it can then sell that invoice to the factor. The factor usually advances a significant percentage of the invoice's value, often between 70% and 90%, directly to the business. The remaining balance, minus the factor's fees and interest, is paid to the business once the customer has settled the invoice.

There are different types of factoring arrangements. In recourse factoring, if the customer fails to pay the invoice, the business is responsible for buying back the invoice from the factor. In non-recourse factoring, the factor assumes the credit risk of the customer's non-payment, making it a more expensive option for the business. Factoring can be a valuable tool for businesses needing to improve liquidity, manage cash flow cycles, and fund growth without taking on traditional debt. However, the fees associated with factoring can be higher than those for bank loans.
