A faasilukustussüsteem, often abbreviated as PLL, is an electronic control system that generates an output signal whose phase is related to the phase of an input signal. Essentially, it synchronizes the output signal to the input signal. A PLL consists of three main components: a phase detector, a loop filter, and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO).

The phase detector compares the phase of the input signal with the phase of the output signal from the VCO. Any phase difference detected generates an error voltage. This error voltage is then filtered by the loop filter, which smooths out rapid fluctuations and determines the PLL's dynamic characteristics, such as its bandwidth and damping. The filtered error voltage is then used to control the VCO. The VCO, in turn, adjusts its output frequency and phase until it matches the input signal's phase.

PLLs are widely used in various electronic applications. They are crucial for demodulating signals in radio receivers, recovering clock signals in digital systems (like computers and communication devices), frequency synthesis (generating precise frequencies), and in audio processing for pitch shifting and synchronization. The ability of a PLL to track changes in the input signal's frequency and phase makes it a versatile and indispensable component in modern electronics. Its feedback mechanism ensures that the output signal remains locked in phase with the input signal, even in the presence of noise or drift.
