FärgTV, meaning "color television" in Swedish, refers to the technology that displays moving images in a spectrum of colors. The development of color television began in the early 20th century, with significant advancements made throughout the 1930s and 1940s. However, widespread adoption was hindered by technical challenges and the need for standardized broadcast systems.

The first public demonstrations of color television systems occurred in the 1920s and 1930s. Early systems were often mechanical or used multiple cameras and screens. The advent of electronic television technology, building on black-and-white systems, provided a more practical foundation for color transmission. In the United States, the National Television System Committee (NTSC) developed a compatible color system that was approved in 1953, allowing existing black-and-white sets to receive color broadcasts in monochrome.
