exFree

ExFree is a free and open-source network traffic analysis tool, primarily designed to monitor and compare network traffic in live environments. Developed by ExFree SA, the software is a commercial-grade network traffic analysis tool that facilitates comparisons between repeated measurements, typically performed before and after an event.

ExFree is based on the riverbed zException component, allowing users to request packet capture files in a proprietary format. This enables the analysis tool to be used for packet analysis, decoding, and visualization. ExFree's primary features include the detection of network configuration regressions, regression analysis, mean recent utilization, forward and reverse recovery lists, and variables used for counters.

By implementing the bandplot algorithm, ExFree displays comparisons of network traffic in graphical format, with mice-over actions providing detailed breakdowns of each measurement. In addition, it is capable of showing success-cumulative configuration margin, timestamp quickquery, and instance ID, offering visible and intuitive displays of network data.

Originally developed for usage in Cisco Network Router testing, ExFree has since been expanded to network traffic analysis applications. The software does not require any special setup, can be installed on x86 architectures, and can handle portability and unzip. By utilizing an open-source model, the tool offers flexibility, allowing users to customize the software and establish communities for supporting each other.
