Estertyper (Danish for "types of esters") is a term used in organic chemistry to refer to the broad family of esters, compounds formed by the condensation of carboxylic acids and alcohols. The defining functional group is the ester linkage, typically represented as R-CO-O-R', where R is an acyl group and R' is an alkyl or aryl group.

Esters are commonly classified by the nature of the alkoxy and acyl components. Aliphatic (alkyl) esters have an alkyl group on the ester oxygen, while aryl esters have an aryl group. Transesterification and hydrolysis are common reactions used to modify esters, while esterification is a fundamental method to form them. Biodiesel production often relies on transesterification of triglycerides with alcohols.

Safety and handling of esters vary by compound, but many esters are relatively low in toxicity and are primarily irritants or flammable liquids in certain conditions. As a class, estertyper encompass a versatile and widely used set of organic compounds across chemistry and materials science.
