esterous is a chemical term referring to a substance that has undergone esterification. Esterification is a chemical reaction between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid, where an ester and water are formed. Esters are a class of organic compounds that are characterized by a carbonyl group bonded to an alkoxy group. They are widely found in nature and are responsible for many of the scents and flavors of fruits and flowers.
