Erbium is a chemical element with the symbol Er and atomic number 68. It is a silvery-white, malleable, and ductile rare-earth metal that belongs to the lanthanide series in the periodic table. First discovered in 1843 by the Swedish chemist Carl Gustaf Mosander, erbium was isolated in its metallic form in 1905 by the French chemist Georges Urbain and the Austrian chemist Carl Auer von Welsbach.
Erbium is relatively stable in air at room temperature but slowly oxidizes when exposed to moist air.
Erbium has several applications due to its unique properties. One of its most notable uses is in
In the medical field, erbium-doped materials are utilized in dental and skin treatments, such as laser dentistry
