Epebetegségek, often referred to as gallbladder diseases, encompass a range of conditions affecting the gallbladder and bile ducts. The gallbladder is a small organ located beneath the liver, responsible for storing and releasing bile, which aids in the digestion of fats.

The most common epebetegség is gallstones, also known as cholelithiasis. These are hardened deposits of digestive fluid that can form in the gallbladder. They can vary in size and composition. While many gallstones cause no symptoms, some can block the bile ducts, leading to severe pain, inflammation (cholecystitis), jaundice, or pancreatitis.

Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder, often caused by a gallstone obstructing the cystic duct. Symptoms typically include intense abdominal pain, fever, and nausea. Chronic cholecystitis can develop over time with repeated episodes of inflammation.

Other epebetegségek include gallbladder polyps, which are growths on the gallbladder lining, and biliary dyskinesia, a motility disorder where the gallbladder does not empty properly. While less common, gallbladder cancer can also occur, often diagnosed at later stages.

Diagnosis of epebetegségek usually involves medical history, physical examination, and imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT scans, or MRI. Treatment options depend on the specific condition and its severity, ranging from watchful waiting for asymptomatic gallstones to surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) for symptomatic conditions. Dietary changes may also be recommended.
