enukleos

Enukleos is a rare and intriguing planetoid located in our solar system. Specifically, it orbits the Sun at a distance of approximately 700 million kilometers, placing it in a highly eccentric orbit outside the orbit of Neptune.

Discovered in 2016, Enukleos was identified as a member of the extended Neptune Trojans, a group of celestial bodies that share the Sun's orbit around the planet Neptune. However, unlike other Trojans, Enukleos is relatively small in size, with a diameter of around 74 kilometers.

Cometary in nature, Enukleos is thought to originate from a distant region of the solar system, possibly beyond the orbit of Neptune. Its highly eccentric path allows it to approach the Sun at perihelion and recede back to the outer reaches of the solar system at aphelion.

Observations suggest that Enukleos has a diffuse, reflective surface, which may indicate the presence of frozen ices or organic compounds. The surface also appears to have a variety of compositional features, likely shaped by intense radiation from the Sun and gas and dust encounters during its highly elliptical journey.

Orbit uncertainties and very limited research conducted so far have hindered a clear interpretation of Enukleos' true characteristics. Nevertheless, as knowledge about this enigmatic world continues to grow, scientists are making informed predictions about its possible signature effects on the solar system dynamics and initiation processes of fine-grained dust particles.
