The concept is typically applied to structures such as legal personhood, corporate identity, and digital avatars. In these cases the entity in question derives its existence from the set of entities it represents: a corporation, for example, is constituted by its shareholders, its board, and its contractual obligations, rather than a singular, physical component. Critics argue that entiteetistäentiteeteistä risks conflating social constructs with objective reality, whereas proponents claim it is a useful analytic tool for understanding how modern institutions mediate between individual actors and larger systemic frameworks.
