The name *enhanserite* originates from its association with the Enhans mine in the Harz Mountains of Germany, where it was first reported in 1908. However, subsequent studies have cast doubt on its validity as a distinct mineral species.

The proposed chemical composition of enhanserite is often cited as a basic copper sulfate, with formulas such as CuSO₄·3H₂O or variations involving additional elements like chlorine or carbon. This aligns loosely with known minerals like chalcanthite (CuSO₄·5H₂O), but enhanserite lacks definitive structural or compositional confirmation. Some researchers suggest it may represent an impure or transitional form of chalcanthite or another hydrated copper sulfate mineral.

Due to its scarcity and ambiguous classification, enhanserite has not been formally recognized by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA). Most modern mineralogical references do not list it as a valid mineral, and its occurrence remains unverified in reputable geological surveys. Specimens labeled as enhanserite may instead be misidentified chalcanthite, malachite, or other copper-bearing secondary minerals.
