Energiasäteilyjä refers to electromagnetic radiation across the entire spectrum. This radiation travels as waves and carries energy. The spectrum is divided into different regions based on wavelength and frequency, each with unique properties and applications.

At one end of the spectrum are radio waves, which have long wavelengths and low frequencies. They are used in broadcasting, communication, and radar. Microwaves, with shorter wavelengths, are used in microwave ovens and telecommunications. Infrared radiation, often perceived as heat, is used in thermal imaging, remote controls, and heating. Visible light, the portion of the spectrum that human eyes can detect, allows us to see and is crucial for photography and lighting.

Moving further into higher frequencies and shorter wavelengths, we encounter ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV rays from the sun can cause sunburn but are also used in sterilization and vitamin D production. X-rays, with even higher energy, can penetrate soft tissues but are absorbed by denser materials like bone, making them invaluable in medical imaging. At the highest energy end are gamma rays, produced by nuclear reactions and radioactive decay. They are highly penetrating and used in medical treatments like radiation therapy and in industrial applications.

All forms of energiasäteilyjä, from radio waves to gamma rays, are fundamentally the same phenomenon, differing only in their energy levels and wavelengths.
