Endoplasmakalvot is a term used to describe a proposed class of membranous structures associated with the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells. In some Finnish-language science texts and speculative discussions, endoplasmakalvot are presented as distinct membrane sheets that extend from or remodel the ER, forming a separate compartment within the cytoplasm. The term is not universally adopted and may appear in theoretical models of the endomembrane system.

Morphology and connections are described as flattened sheets or cisternae that can be continuous with portions of the rough or smooth ER. These membranes may enclose a luminal space that remains connected to the ER lumen, allowing exchange of ions and small molecules. The exact protein composition and the degree of architectural specialization are reported to vary across cell types and conditions.

Biogenesis and dynamics are thought to involve remodeling or invagination of existing ER membranes. Endoplasmakalvot, if present, could reorganize in response to cellular activity, secretory load, or signaling cues, potentially transitioning between more sheet-like and more tubular configurations along the ER network.

Proposed functions include compartmentalizing enzymatic steps in lipid metabolism, concentrating quality-control factors for nascent proteins, and contributing to calcium handling. However, evidence for endoplasmakalvot as a discrete, universally recognized organelle remains limited and debated. In many accounts, the concept is best viewed as a theoretical extension of endomembrane organization rather than a clearly defined structure with universal occurrence.
