emfyseemä

Emfyseemä is a lung condition that causes shortness of breath. It is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In emfyseemä, the air sacs in the lungs, called alveoli, are damaged. This damage makes it harder for the lungs to take in oxygen and send it to the bloodstream.

The most common cause of emfyseemä is smoking. Exposure to air pollution, chemical fumes, or dust can also lead to the condition. Symptoms often develop slowly and may include chronic cough, mucus production, and wheezing. The damage to the alveoli is irreversible.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical exam, medical history, and lung function tests such as spirometry. Imaging tests like chest X-rays or CT scans may also be used. While there is no cure for emfyseemä, treatments aim to manage symptoms and slow the progression of the disease. These can include medications like bronchodilators and corticosteroids, pulmonary rehabilitation programs, and in severe cases, oxygen therapy or surgery. Quitting smoking is the most important step to prevent or slow the worsening of emfyseemä.
